Camp Description:
Turn-off at Owaka to Pounawea which is a mere dot on the map. Pounawea is at the mouth of the estuary and the camp is right on the waterfront adjacent to the Scenic Reserve. There are 36 power sites, plus tent sites. Enjoy the natural bush and fine old Totara trees.. The other attraction is a little beach which can be accessed through the back fence. You will find a free BBQ and picnic areas under the many trees where the sound of Tui’s can be heard. Many walks and activities can be enjoyed in the area. The central amenities block has excellent facilities including two en-suite units. In the upgraded kitchen you will find a microwave, gas & electric cooking, cooking & eating utensils, and a beautiful macrocarpa slab table. This room extends to a small lounge that has an open fire and satellite TV. Commercial auto washers and dryers are provided. There is a children’s playground close by, Eftpos is available and the office carries some essential items. A nice clean camp in the care of your friendly host Glen.
